L&S Act 5

Act 5, Scene 1

Narrator: Kira, Theo, and company arrive outside Sunday to find it heavily guarded. Hundreds of people block the roads in or out. They need to find a way in, and fast.

[pop]

[clank of weapons]

Kira: Stand down, citizens!

Person: The Supreme Commander! There she is!

Person 2: What should we do, Boss?

Boss: Make her pay for what she did to us. What she did to December. Whaddaya say, folks?

Townsfolk: YES, BOSS!

Kira, in Theo’s thoughts: I’m going with them. I need to finish what I started.

Theo: Kira, no!

Kira: It’s a way in! I’ll make it out. Follow close.

Theo: You’re not invincible!

Kira: Trust me.

Theo: What – no –

Kira, aloud: Alright, I will go with you.

[They handcuff her and drag her away]

Terra: That was a very bad idea.

Theo: I knew it.

Terra: They’re taking her to the cave. She’ll have no power there.

Theo: And after that? What does she mean by “I need to finish what I started”?

Terra: Dark. It goes dark after this.

Theo: Damnit. Mom, got anything?

Johana: Not on me…

Theo, sarcastically: Excellent.

Johana: But I do know the area quite well. Hid out here for a long time.

Theo: Where do we go?

Johana, smile in her “voice”: The armory.

Terra: Excellent idea, Aunt.

Johana: Aunt??

Terra: Prometheus is my uncle, it’s only fair that you’re my aunt.

Johana: I like this. Let’s go, people.

[footfalls across the grass]

Johana: City’s lit up like a ship in the night. Should be fairly easy.

Night guardsman 1 (Gustav): STOP RIGHT THERE.

Theo: Hello, Gustav…

Johana: You know this guy?

Theo: Shhh, let me do this.

Gustav: You know me from somewhere?

Theo: Sure I do. Do you want to take us to the armory?

Gustav: Do you have clearance?

Theo: My presence is clearance alone. Do you understand?

Gustav: Your presence is clearance alone.
Theo: Take us.

Gustav: Taking.

[More footfalls]

Other night guardsman: STOP RIGHT THERE. Gustav, you are transporting known enemies of the state. Gustav, do you hear me?

[silence]

[arrow whoosh]

[Gustav falls]

Other night guardsman: Don’t try your mind tricks on me, Hero. I’m far stronger than you think I am –

[Terra stabs him with his own knife]

Other guardsman: Requesting backup…We have the Red Widow here with the Hero and some others.

Guardsman on radio: What, you’re kidding.

Other guardsman: Not…

[Other guardsman dies]

Theo: Red Widow?

Terra: Long story. Johana, how far out are we?

Johana: Half a mile.

Terra: Then let’s run.

Act 5, Scene 2

Narrator: They reach the armory with the intention of getting weapons, but they can’t get in.

[Theo tugs at the door]

Terra: Let Basil have a shot.

[Basil opens the door]

[everyone is stunned]

Basil: What can I say? Being the prince has its perks. Get in, we’re going looting.

[They go into the armory, Terra makes a break for the kitchen area]

[kitchen sink runs]

Theo: Where are you going, Terra? The weapons are over here!

Terra: If you’re going to cut lavender, what do you need?

Theo: I don’t want to know.

Terra: Scissors. The lavender is everywhere and ready to harvest. Only bring weapons that will go unnoticed or hidden in plain sight, if I have anything to say about it.

Simon: Your cousin is a psychopath.

Terra: Simon…there’s one thing you need to learn and learn right now. If something has a name, call it by its proper name. I’m not a psychopath. I’m evil. Call me by my name.

[Simon is floored]

Terra: Shut your mouth before a fly gets in there.

[Simon is more floored]

Theo: …Alright.  We good?

All: Yeah!

[They leave armory]

Act 5, Scene 3

Narrator: It’s showtime. They leave the armory and begin working their way to the cave.

[night sounds]

[they scamper out]

[They find a bunch of guardsmen waiting]

[Johana fires opening shots]

[Terra comes in and starts taking men out one by one with an open pair of scissors]

[Theo swings a sword and the sword obeys]

[Squad dies]

Johana: Do you know what it is you’re carrying?

Theo: A sword.

Johana: My mother’s sword. Marta Eistros’ sword.

Theo: I see. It feels good.

Johana: That’s nice…where’s Terra?

Narrator: Terra is far ahead of the group taking people out silently. Finally, she has killed enough people for the crowd to reveal the entrance to the cave.

Terra, in the distance: Hey, over here!

[They run to her]

Terra: Found the cave, stay here and guard it. I hear Kira in there. If I’m not out of here in twenty minutes, call Elba.

Theo: What? No! Let me go in!

Terra: No. I’ve done enough. You’ve got your whole life ahead of you.

Theo: Wait, no!

[Terra sprints into the dark]

Narrator: And so Terra runs. She runs through the dark searching for Kira and suddenly finds herself in an opulent cave hall. Kira is bound on the floor while Marsh is seated on a golden throne.

Marsh: Ms. Selene. Nice of you to join us. You aren’t here to rescue Ms. Eistros, by any chance, are you?

Terra: Yes, I am.

Marsh: Courageous, I see. Tell me, Ms. Selene, what do you see in Ms. Eistros’ future?

Terra: Anything she wants.

Marsh: What?

Terra: Anything she wants. There’s always a choice, contrary to what you, your father, and what Kira herself once believed. I learned that a long time ago. Nothing in your future is set in stone, and my long-sight changes with the decisions people make. Kira’s power is limitless, isn’t it?

Kira, in Terra’s mind: No, it isn’t…

Terra: I believe that anyone can change their future if they want to. And if anyone tells you otherwise, they’re the ones that are wrong.

Terra in Kira’s mind: What have you seen from Marsh?

Kira, in Terra’s mind: Nothing…except for that he has one of the jewel fragments on his throne.

Terra, in Kira’s mind: If you die here, don’t be afraid.

Kira: Okay…

Marsh: What was that?

Terra: Nothing.

Marsh: I sense you’re also here for something else, Ms. Selene. If you’re here for the jewel fragment, rest assured that one of us will have to die before I give it to you.

Terra: I believe that one of us will, Marsh. And it’s going to be you.

[pulls out scissors]

Marsh: No. Absolutely not. What do you think a pair of scissors will do against me?

Terra: Tell me, Mr. Marsh, how do you cut lavender?

Marsh: With scissors or a knife…what are you doing?!

Terra: I know your kind, Mr. Marsh…

[drags scissors down leg]

[Marsh screams]

Terra: So powerful that you could pit two rival factions and have them destroy themselves so that you can create a new world order and then claim Nobody did it..

[drags further]

Terra, quietly: To cover the world in darkness for weeks…

[more dragging]

Terra, even quieter: To trick the Supreme Commander into believing your cause is just…and then die because of a mere scratch.

Marsh: What did you put on those scissors?!

Terra: Lavender, the same thing I hear that you used to poison your father. Ironic, some would say. Mr. Marsh…[drags down to heel] There’s an old Earth phrase – Achilles’ heel. A person’s fatal flaw or weakness. Do you know what your fatal flaw is, Mr. Marsh?

[Marsh is quiet]

Terra: Arrogance.

[She drops scissors]

[Marsh begins to glow]

[He throws the jewel fragment and it hits Kira]

[Kira screams]

[Kira fades away]

[Marsh screams and fades away]

Act 5, Scene 4

Narrator: It’s three days after the confrontation with Marsh. Nobody believes Terra’s story even though the darkness has lifted. Elba and Hanno got the crew out of Sunday, but nobody knew where Kira would end up. On the third day, they give up hope. They decide to have a burial in the snow. Bel refuses to take part in the ceremony.

Bel: Kira, I believe you’re still out there. I believe Terra. They’ve been saying you’re gone for days, but I don’t believe you’re truly gone. [cries]

[clink of jewel fragment falling]

Bel: What’s this?

[reaches over to touch it, but before he can, there’s a gasp]

[Kira screams like a newborn taking her first breath in Bel’s bed]

Bel: Kira?

Kira, after breathing a bit: Bel?? I’m alive? I just had the best dream…
