  • I am spent.

But at least I have a random T shirt from an adventure today??

    Goodnight, all.

  • This is a new poem called “your god is a boning knife” about my time in the Mormon Church.

the god of your dreaming world is a boning knife
made to pry black from white
good from evil, the same from the other
    the wheat from the chaff
you’ve made the sacred into a weapon, a tool
    and reality into delusion

the god of your dreaming world is a crowbar
made to pry denial from the self
love from fear (to you, they are one and the
    same)
blood from stones, beauty from ashes
until the souls you’ve carved in the name of
perfection, divine judgment, are not souls anymore
they are vessels for your unholy scripture
and their too perfect smiles don’t look
    joyful to me anymore
    they look like silent screams

the god of your dreaming world is a club
you use words to bludgeon when you can
    no longer pry
slow violence and promises of an unsafe world
    outside of these walls to
    keep followers in line
you’ve made faith into such a violent thing
I never want to touch it again for fear of holding
the same weapons you used against me

the god of your dreaming world is a noose
and I am still suspended upside down by my
left ankle when I sleep sometimes all these years
    later
as the blood rushes to my head I wonder what I
did to deserve this, how I fell for this
as I scream for someone to cut me down

I got out from under the shadow of your god
    just barely
I am not perfect, I don’t want your vision
you will not pry anything else from me

  • “treasure trove” by Eight, 2022

These are the things I keep tucked
    beneath my ribcage
that the last remaining part that is human
in me tries to keep hidden –

my anger at death is just longing in
    disguise
society is too scared to let me have
    my anger is really passion
    and fear

(except for the dull ache that lives
    beneath my bottom left rib)

(he wants god to burn and the houses of
    my enemies set ablaze
to light the way to heaven’s gate)

    I keep my loves small
    my happiness smaller
    I fold joys innumerable –
    millions of them –
    into my chest cavity
but I never learned to cherish them
so they’ve always faded with the sun
    melted into nothing

    I hide my longings poorly
To be seen, for a silvertongued
lost king made from the same stuff as me
I’ve looked my angels and my
    demons in their myriad eyes
and ask them why they don’t leave me
    alone
    and they all say
“all we ever wanted was your love”
    in a thousand different ways

  • The new zine is slowly taking shape.

We’re calling it Fear Not The Brave Pain and dear gods, it’s shaping up to be a void flavored behemoth.

Here’s the cover art I did today:

  • Hi, everyone. My name is Peri.

    I wrote this today:

I'm the result of two generations of fire, at least
my grandfather saw horrors he likes to laugh
about and won't talk about directly, but
    he replicates them compulsively when
    he's stressed out or bored
my mother does the same thing and laughs
about it too, but watches me for
the same signs, the same crazy, like a ticking
time bomb although often she is the cause
of the insanity she fears so deeply at her core.

I want to say that the shows I like
hit too close to home, but they
play out like my life did for twenty four years.
    pyromania burned through my mother's
    line, held my grandfather prisoner.
my mother had her own compulsions,
not just fire. her hands, cold as death, were
    always busy, always searching, always
grasping for another handhold, another tool,
another soul, another project. her hazel eyes
knew every entrance and exit, how to find
and get leverage, and she was plagued by
the nightmares, too. under the constant
stress of a dying husband and warring children,
her mind held her hostage for eighteen years,
forcing her to build fortress after fortress,
light fire after fire, see threat after threat,
    run and run.

and she saw me as a blackened mirror
of herself, a shell burned through.
she followed me like a firewatcher,
as though I was a bomb primed to explode.
my compulsions are not hers, but the terror
is the same. the mechanism is the same
or is similar enough to be indistinguishable.
but I am here to quench the fire and the thirst
and I might be crazy but I'm here to do things
differently, so watch me if you must
but be prepared for me to
    douse
    your
    flame
