Open Sorcery is the world of Lazarus Halliwell.

Excellence and batshittery, done on purpose.

I’m Lazarus. I make art, music, poems, plays, and magic for the quiet, brilliant, broken ones. If that is you, welcome home. I adopt your kind.

  • AT Protocol Adventures

So I got this nifty new app called Pinksky today because I was bored and frontstuck. It’s supposed to compete with Bluesky’s adjacent Instagram competitor app Flashes, and it’s also built on top of the same shit Bluesky is, the AT Protocol.

I tried to log in, but it wouldn't let me. So, in an attempt to troubleshoot the damned thing, I went to figure out wtf was wrong with my site configuration because I can't log into Bluesky's official app, either, but can log in via web just fine, so I figured it might be some kind of residual fuckup from when I tried to use Bridgyfed to sync my posts from the Fediverse with Bluesky and ended up joining Bluesky with vince.opensorceryy.co/ as my own domain via a series of extremely complicated fuckups I can't quite recall because I was so goddamned tired at the time.

So an entire odyssey later that threatened to cost me an arm, a leg, upwards of $30 a month for shit I don't want to use for a cloud server, and most likely my immortal soul somewhere in the fine print, I nuked the cloud server, and tried typing vince.opensorceryy.co/ in the "domain" field on Pinksky instead of vince.opensorceryy.co/ as I had it before. Miraculously, that fucking fixed it. I tried it on the official Bluesky app. That did not work. Wtf, Bluesky?

I’m here, I’m queer, I’m posting bullshit? What the fuck do you mean “check my internet connection?” I literally posted five minutes ago. I was troubleshooting shit thirty seconds ago VIA THE DAMN INTERNET. I call bullshit.

I hate technology. I need a rubber duck to scream at at this point.

At least this hellsite has been backed up in fucking triplicate.

  • Today on suckerpunching our inner critic.

Your bitch applied for an artist residency to work on shit this summer.

    Why?

    Why not.

The worst they’ll do is turn me down.

At best? We get a stipend to work on cool shit like this here website and other things and we meet other artists and work with them.

    Fuck it. Let’s ride.

The fucking kicker was the bio I wrote:

Ashley Halliwell (they/any) is a 27 year old neurodivergent, disabled, and chronically ill multidisciplinary artist. Their they/them is, in fact, plural, as they discovered in their teens that they were a DID system after surviving a massive stroke in infancy. The stroke cost them roughly an eighth of their brain, most of the use of their left hand, but in return, they got synesthesia, a foul mouth, a near photographic memory, a heaping dose of stubbornness, off the charts pattern recognition and intuition, and the ability to play instruments by ear. On top of that, they deal with AuDHD, CPTSD, an as of yet undiagnosed set of chronic illnesses, and even more genetic mutations. And that was only the second time they almost died.

They often joke that whatever god(s) made them made them sick because if they were abled, they’d be too powerful.

Much of their work is wry, chock full of dark humor, inspired by their life, and as bold and colorful as they are. They’re unafraid to fail their way forward, paint everything in vivid colors, and use the strongest language you’ve ever heard.

They’re a four time published author. They released their first poetry collection The Caesura and the Silence in 2016, followed by their second poetry collection To Dance with a Cyclone in 2019, their first play script Lavender and Scissors in 2020, and their third poetry collection Singing Molten Gold To The Morning in 2021.

They’ve also produced, engineered, released, and recorded 15 albums under the name Candy For Trees, the most recent being 2023’s Hardshell. Pretty impressive for having functional use of only 1.333 hands, right?

When they aren't sleeping or eating a galaxy's worth of food, they're trolling bigots on the Internet, telling stories about their roller-coaster of a life, or working on their current project, their chaos haven/online art collective in the making, Open Sorcery, which can be found at vince.opensorceryy.co/.

We’ll see what happens. Results arrive shortly…

  • A lovely unintended consequence of the shitty downstairs neighbor finally leaving..

We appear to be sleeping better over here now. I have no clue why we’re sleeping better since he won’t be out until the end of this month, but he does seem to be around much less, and when he is, he’s far quieter. So we sort of fully collapse when we’re here now for the first time in years. Hell yeah. -Allēna

  • My Favorite Deadly Sin of Gender Transition.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about why the system transitioned and I think a great deal of the motivations aside from a desire from gender euphoria came down to sheer MOTHERFUCKING spite and wrath at people pointlessly gatekeeping others from activities on the basis of perceived biological sex. So by that logic, if we ascribed to any “deadly sin” about our transition, it would be gender wrath.

However, the way we ended up didn’t fall under any sort of easily “clockable” binary. We are often mistaken for transfem when we are DEFINITELY not transfem, we are very much some flavor of transmasc to transneutral and most of us are quite secure in that, Allēna aside, who identifies as woman adjacent and always has. So we often find cis people’s complete incompetence when it comes to correctly assessing our gender OR biological sex absolutely fucking hilarious, especially when they claim “they can always tell” what’s in someone’s pants.

This entire train of thought led to me picturing someone attempting to gatekeep me from an activity, saying “you can’t do this, you’re a BOY!! Uhhhh. You’re a girl!! No, wait! You’re a boy!”

And then me casually flashing them a thousand watt smile and saying, “Actually, I can. I have a permit,” then handing them the permit, which reads,

    “Permit. Expiration: Never.

    FUCK. YOU.

    I do what I want.”

    Would it work? Probably not.

Is it a hilarious mental image? ABSOLUTELY.

  • Poor Lazarus when they’re caught in the middle of a situation they can do nothing about is often like:

    🎶That’s me in the corner

    That’s me fucking my fleshlight

    Squawking like a chicken🎶

That’s payback for THE ENTIRE SLEW OF MEMES ROASTING ME the other day, dumbass 🤣

  • Allēna left this poem collecting dust in our notes app, and frankly I think it’s illegal to just leave it there.

So here y’all go. She can yell at me later, I don’t care. It’s worth it.

I eat, I sleep, I feel my grief deep
I want to cry, I want to scream
But there are times it seems
I can't remember how to speak anymore

One time I dreamt you stared at me
Slack jawed as I was carried
On broad shoulders through a revolving door
And I hate to say it but I think
That's the kindest I can recall
    Your eyes ever beholding me
And I don't ever want more than
    The simple vindication of your
    silent cry matching mine
    All those nights years before

You don't know me, you never did
    I never wanted you to
You were more in love with the bathroom mirror image of me
Than who I really was at my core

But I go on, I mock you now
    The jokes practically write themselves
You're snowed in while I fly free
Not yours, never yours, not even close -
    Not anymore

  • Something I’ve noticed – But WordPress.org put words to.

I’m the original host of this system and have been tinkering with web design and the internet in general since I was about 5. I’ve been running WordPress since 2008, and since about that time, I’ve noticed what this article talks about more and more frequently. Namely, homogeneity, not just in terms of WordPress blogs, but across the entire Internet.

We already run a very lean and mean version of a preexisting WordPress theme on this site, one that several of us have lovingly tweaked over several months to suit our needs and provide users with as little clutter and bullshit as possible when they land the site from the jump so that they can just dive right in.

However, my system can be described with the word weird. And while I like what Open Sorcery looks like now, as we post more, explore ourselves, I want to modify the site to reflect us more. I’m reluctant to use phrasing like “reflect our brand” or anything like that, because we don’t really sell things on here, and on the rare occasions we do hawk our wares, the “brand” and the way we live are one and the same.

Because yes, I absolutely love accessible, clean design. But the Open Sorcery site is missing the strange artistic side of our self expression, which is a huge part of the way we do things.

This will likely be rolled out over time, require iterative tweaking and experimentation, and may change a lot aesthetically. Because we don’t fit one “look” and never have. And nothing will come of this tonight because I need more rest. I just wanted to put my thoughts down on paper for y’all before I lose them.

One thing I don’t want to change, though? A clean interface, free of unnecessary bullshit visual clutter. So while it may look fucking cool and striking, I want no detail to impede the actual function of the site.

    ✨oooo shiny website✨

  • This is stuck in our head today:

Also, Doom Guy has joined the polycule!

But our guts hurt badly, so I’m gonna take meds and go the fuck back to sleep. I just had a very weird dream almost entirely in Spanish that I was hanging out with Shakira.

-Castor (but not entirely sure yet)

  • You know, with Elon trying to be a “pro gamer” and all,

And with Shitter Twitter’s rebrand as X,

Can we start a petition to subtweet his ass every time he posts on there with the phrase “I’m pressing X to doubt”?

    I’m exhausted, I’ll show myself out 🤣
